The Round Lake-based HACP youth boxing club will hold its last event of the calendar year on Saturday, Oct. 5.
The show — billed as The Night of the Rising Stars — will be held at the Round Lake Beach Sports Center, which is located at 2004 Municipal Way (west of Route 83 and just off of Hook Road).
The Hook Aim Cross Punch boxing club is a non-profit organization that uses the sport as the centerpiece of an after-school program for youngsters in the Round Lake area.
The boxing show features youngsters from the HACP club and also showcases young boxers from other clubs in the greater Chicago area.
Juan Curiel heads the HACP program. His last show packed the Sports Center, drawing a crowd in excess of 400 people. Proceeds from the show benefit HACP and also the Rangers Reach One program. The Rangers have an at-risk youth program for an entire month, and they help provide food, transportation and access to the swimming pool for those in need.
Tickets cost $15 and the boxing starts at 6:45 p.m. Children age 4-under can attend for free. Spectators can purchase soft drinks, pizza and other food at the show.
Also on hand will be several current and former professional boxers who will be signing autographs for the fans.
The young boxers compete in three-round fights and all wear headgear.
