It’s time to relay the good news about Stevenson High School’s girls swimming team.

That is, total domination of the relay races on Saturday produced a second consecutive team championship for the Patriots in the Lake County Invitational that was held at Lake Forest.

Stevenson won the 200-yard freestyle relay, the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay — and with relays counting a bundle of points for team scoring, that was a key to the 288-249 victory over the home team. Barrington was third.

This made back-to-back team titles at County for the Patriots, who edged Lake Forest for top honors last year as well. Lake Forest won in 2010 and 2011.

The meet posted amazingly fast times for so early in the season. In the 11 swimming events, the winner of 10 of them bettered the state-qualifying standard, which is the mark a swimmer must hit at the sectional to advance to state.

Stevenson’s stars on Saturday all came through, with Julie Wawer winning the 50 freestyle, Riley Kirby winning the 100 back for the second straight year, and Leah Bloodgood finishing second in the 100 breaststroke. They also swam legs on relay teams.

The meet’s two double-winners were Mundelein star Erin Falconer (100 and 200 freestyles) and Lake Forest’s Reilly Lanigan (100 butterfly and 200 individual medley).

In diving, Morgan Dunleavy of Libertyville dethroned Zion-Benton’s Allegra Codamon 370-357. Codamon had won the competition in each of the last three years.

All told, swimmers from 10 schools competed in the meet. Deerfield and Highland Park were the county schools that have swim teams and did not participate.
