Warren High sophomore Alex Christensen has been named Youth Hockey Player of the Month through a program run by the Chicago Blackhawks and BMO Harris Bank.

Christensen plays defense for the Blue Devils girls hockey team, which consists of girls players from several area high schools.

Also chosen were a Coach of the Month and a Volunteer of the Month. All three were recognized on the ice at a Hawks game this week.

All candidates are nominated by teammates, coaches, friends or family members through the Blackhawks’ website and are judged by an amateur hockey committee.

Christensen was 13 years old when she began playing hockey. Last year, she was nominated as the most improved player on the team. Aside from her academic strengths, Christensen spends time volunteering at “Feed My Starving Children.”
